Try to learn to breathe deeply, really to taste food when you eat, and when you sleep, really to sleep. Try as much as possible to be wholly alive with all your might, and when you laugh, laugh like hell. And when you get angry, get good and angry. Try to be alive. You will be dead soon enough.

There will always be a reason why you meet people. Either you need them to change your life or you’re the one that will change theirs.

We can’t jump off bridges anymore because our iPhones will get ruined. We can’t take skinny dips in the ocean, because there’s no service on the beach and adventures aren’t real unless they’re on Instagram. Technology has doomed the spontaneity of adventure and we’re helping destroy it every time we Google, check-in, and hashtag.

As great as things have been going for me, I still feel remarkably unhappy with myself for not being more accomplished at my age. I’m 25 and I honestly thought I’d have at least some of my shit together by now… be it an actual career, being in my own place, or even just on my way to being able to have my own place… none of that though. I blame myself mostly. I guess I can do what most people do and blame the economy and other circumstances that are actually out of my hands… but I still blame myself more. I just wonder when I’ll be on my way to having my shit together, because I really can’t see things changing in any of those ways. I just see no clear path to any of it.

I have wanted to kill myself a hundred times, but somehow I am still in love with life.

When you feel perpetually unmotivated, you start questioning your existence in an unhealthy way; everything becomes a pseudo intellectual question you have no interest in responding whatsoever. This whole process becomes your very skin and it does not merely affect you; it actually defines you. So, you see yourself as a shadowy figure unworthy of developing interest, unworthy of wondering about the world - profoundly unworthy in every sense and deeply absent in your very presence.

The problem, often not discovered until late in life, is that when you look for things in life like love, meaning, motivation, it implies they are sitting behind a tree or under a rock. The most successful people in life recognize, that in life they create their own love, they manufacture their own meaning, they generate their own motivation.

For me, I am driven by two main philosophies, know more today about the world than I knew yesterday. And lessen the suffering of others. You’d be surprised how far that gets you.

So many nice things to live your lives for. So live them.

Sometimes you meet someone, and it’s so clear so immediately that the two of you, on some level, belong together. As lovers, or as friends, or as family, or as something entirely different. You just work, whether you’re in love or creating things together or foxhole buddies or partners in crime….

When I was like 6 or 7, I went through a phase where I seriously thought quicksand was likely to cause my death at some point as an adult.
