In case you’re a graduate of one of the many colleges in North Carolina and were feeling embarrassed. (via Buzzfeed)
If this doesn’t say something to you, you are almost certainly green.
Discrimination is a trait of the ignorant.
At times like these I think we all must be willing to admit that education is what makes a difference. Going to college and simply experiencing life with people who aren’t your parents or your neighborhood friends has a mind-opening effect on your whole world. You begin to see that the “others” you heard about growing up are actually people exactly like you. Conservatives like to talk a lot of shit about how college “indoctrinates” young people into becoming liberal… I find this to be beyond insulting. Yes, I am without-a-doubt a lot more liberal than I was prior to my time in college, but indoctrinated? None of my professors hammered any ideas into my head or told me I was an idiot for not agreeing with them. And absolutely NO ONE in college told me I was “evil” or “going to hell” because of an opinion that differed from their own. Indoctrination is a very specific method of brainwashing impressionable minds, and it is very important that we all remember the distinct differences that exist between brainwashing and the openness to LEARN. If you are willing to let go of what you think you already know, and open yourself up to the possibility that you might be wrong about how you feel (or how you were once told you should feel), then you are already taking steps in the right direction.
That being said, most conservatives are completely doomed in this way and the south will forever be a breeding ground for hatred, bigotry, racism, intolerance, misogyny, and homophobia. I think I’ll stay up north.

In today’s Washington Post
I’d personally love it more women were in Congress; but to be specific, I’d love it if FEMINISTS were in Congress. I honestly feel like we will never see real change as long as old, religious men remain in power.

And this is why I can’t understand why anyone would be conservative.

I couldn’t agree more.

I AGREE! It’s all about the SCOTUS.
Agreed, and that’s why it’s important to vote democrat even if the democratic party is weak-willed. Voting republican will get us conservative Supreme Court Justices, and having conservative Supreme Court Justices means moving backward and losing ground on civil liberties. In short, vote democrat.

An excellent article that details the main reasons that many young adults are liberals. However, while I agree with all the points, I can’t help but disagree with the assertion that “all” young adults are liberal; I know plenty of conservatives who are my age and younger. Granted most of them are this way due to simple ignorance on the issues, influence of their ignorant parents/elders, or they are just blinded by fear and racism. Either way, when I see young people supporting conservative ideals, it puts a sour taste in my mouth and I worry about the future of this nation.

It’s so true and it makes me sad. I’d love to see a truly leftist candidate in the near future.

“I will pick up that label and wear it as a Badge of Honor.”
~ [Jimmy Smits as] Matt Santos, The West Wing
I am proud to be a liberal!!!
partial text:
Santos: It’s true, Republicans have tried to turn ‘liberal’ into a bad word. Well, liberals ended slavery in this country.
Vinick: A Republican president ended slavery.
Santos: Yes, a liberal Republican. What happened to them? They got run out of your party. What did liberals do that was so offensive to the Republican party? I’ll tell you what they did. Liberals got women the right to vote. Liberals got African-Americans the right to vote. Liberals created social security and lifted millions of elderly people out of poverty. Liberals ended segregation. Liberals passed the Civil Rights Act, the Voting Rights Act, Liberals created Medicare. Liberals passed the Clean Air Act, and the Clean Water Act. What did Conservatives do? They opposed every one of those programs. Every one. So when you try to hurl the word ‘liberal’ at my feet, as if it were dirty, something to run away from, something that I should be ashamed of, it won’t work, Senator, because I will pick up that label and wear it as a badge of honor.I loved this episode :3 I wish they had The West Wing on Netflix :/
I’ve never seen this show, but I’d love to hear a democratic candidate say these things.
Yeah, find a job! What’s wrong with you?
I don’t know about you, but this just punched me in my truth bone. I think it’s located around my spleen.
Yep. This pretty much sums it up.
I have family members that make me feel this way whenever I see them. They have no sense of what is really going on, and whenever they open their mouths I can almost see a silhouette of Bill O’Rielly standing over them whispering in their ears.
My cousin (in his 30’s) and my uncle (in his 60’s) were discussing Social Security and retirement over the summer, and my cousin was essentially saying how he was worried that by the time he was 60, social security would no longer exist and he’d be losing a lot of money… a reasonable concern. My uncle, in all his great “intellect” says, “Nah, you’ll be okay with where you are, it’s the generation after you that’s gonna be left completely screwed.” And he didn’t say it with sympathy or worry, he said it as if he were looking forward to it. There was a slight smugness in his tone, something that let me know exactly how he felt about my generation. It’s something I find quite insulting. Mind you, this man also believes that Obama is a Kenyan Muslim who is trying to empower the Middle East and destroy Israel… so if you needed context, now you have it.
A big caveat. This does not mean that privileged leftists get to erase the oppression of non privileged ones. Someone calling you on your privilege doesn’t equal infighting.
This seems too far-fetched for me… there aren’t even enough outspoken base-liberals in this country. We’re going to call on the few groups of communists, anarchists, etc., and ask them to band together while their ideologies differ entirely?? How would that ever work? We can’t even get every liberal/democrat to support gay marriage. There is no solidarity on the left.

THE LIBERAL AGENDA
Wow, I completely agreed with this video. Especially the last like three minutes of it… it’s rare that I’m 100% on board with anything like this, but in all seriousness, those things are really what the left needs to accomplish. And we need to get started now. Seriously, if you’re left-leaning at all, watch this video.
If that’s really the Webster’s International Dictionary definition, I will be quite happy. lol
