Troy, Michigan couldn’t afford to keep its library open, so it scheduled a vote for a 0.07 tax increase. The Tea Party waged strong anti-tax group waged a “Vote No” campaign against the increase. The city worked with Leo Burnett Detroit to run a counter campaign in the name of the Book Burning Party. Signs appeared around Troy with the message, “Vote to close Troy library Aug 2, book burning party Aug 5.” The campaign’s Facebook page became the hub for the new campaign, with Twitter, Foursquare, want ads, flyers and more to drive engagement. The campaign became international news as outcry over the idea of burning the library’s books drowned out the opposition and galvanized support for the library – which won by a landslide. The campaign won a Gold award for Government/Political at the International ANDY Awards 2012, and was recognized with the Facebook Integrated Media Award at the 2012 Clio Awards this week.

In all seriousness, fuck the Tea Party.

Fuck every single one of them. I hope they all spontaneously drop dead.

Book burning? Really?? In addition to being the most anti-intellectual thing I’ve heard about in a while, I have to comment on the fact that there was another deeply-conservative group of people from the 1920’s and 30’s who also loved to burn books. They also had a lot to say about how liberalism was an evil and how “blood and soil” was the only way to go. Just saying.

There you have it.

The real attraction of the birth-control issue was that it could be used to bash Obamacare. It’s not proving to be a very effective weapon, however. When birth control is uncoupled from the religious-freedom argument—and when conservatives start talking in ugly ad-hominem language, like Limbaugh’s, or clueless anachronistic language, like Santorum’s—women, in particular, do not respond well. Just after Limbaugh lashed out at Fluke, a Georgetown professor attended a reunion at a Catholic school in Queens. An elderly nun asked her, “Do you know that girl?” She added, “That awful man should be fired for what he said. How’s she holding up?”

Even the nuns are on our side now. lol

Exactly how the conservative movement demonizes women.
Amazing how most politicians just stand idly by.

because I’m tired of listening to:

  • misinformed stupidity
  • blatant and unrelenting racism
  • vicious sexism and misogyny
  • ignorance of the most frustrating kind
  • religious and biblical justifications
  • obnoxious ranting and raving
  • idealistic impossibilities
  • doomsayer tactics

I’ve reached the limit when it comes to how much bullshit I can listen to from friends.

If I wanna listen to this kind of shit, I can simply watch the republican debates.

Furthermore, if Santorum gets the nomination and any of my friends vote for him, I will seriously stop talking to them. I know that might seem extreme, but I don’t want to associate with people who think that this theological wretch would make a good president.

This is like my favorite Carlin bit of all time

I miss this guy so much. I’m so sad he never lived to fuck with the Tea Party.

Those are the sound of truth bombs falling all around you.

He really was very insightful.

Scumbag Newt

Newt Gingrich is a cock-sucking piece of shit, for oh-so-many reasons. The more recent stuff is just funny to me. If the unemployment rate can make Obama look bad, he’ll admit that it’s a problem, but if the unemployed are a group of young, educated, mostly forward-thinking people, then it doesn’t matter anymore. He’s nothing more than a smiley opportunist with the brain of a 6th grader. I love how he considers himself a “historian,” but I love it even more when he is called an “intellectual” of the right wing, their “idea man.” Idea man, huh? Here’s an idea, go cheat on your 7th wife and marry another one of your whores, AND THEN keep from complaining about how gay marriage is destroying families. Fucking scumbag.

This is politicususa.com’s list of Republican legislation since 2010, I’ve taken the title’s of each section here.

Anyone living in the US should read this, as this is what the Tea Party (and GOP) is trying to do to our country. If this doesn’t inspire you all to get out to the polls next election, nothing will.

It’s a long read, but it’s important to educate yourself about this. The only way it can be stopped is by voting each and every one of these people out of office.

Ah, the legacy of the republican party. I really want to get out of here.

Whatever the reason, I don’t believe that cultural conservatism, as an ideology, has ever won a battle, despite hewing to [Rick] Warren’s playbook. Rome hellenized despite the Catos, and was later Christianized despite Julian & his elites; the Catholic church lost its temporal influence despite the Papacy; the Beatles drowned out Cole Porter; the South desegregated despite Thurmond & Helms; and America will come to accept gay marriage despite her Santorums. Who’s to say whether it’s good or bad, but it is the course of history. “Politics is always downstream from the source of culture,” and the current’s too swift to paddle backwards.

Cultural Leadership (via azspot)

This is precisely why I have big problems with conservativism in general.
