I’m one of those people who usually says, “Don’t knock it, til you try it”

But with the AMC show Mad Men… eh. I’ve never seen a single episode and I have absolutely no interest in it whatsoever. People always tell me that I need to give it a try, but they don’t defend the premise of the show very well…

I tell them that the commercials make it look like it’s a show about a bunch of rich scumbag alcoholics during the 50’s who smoke, cheat on their wives, and try to one-up each other by being more scummy than the other guy… and my friends’ reactions are usually and uniformly something along the lines of:

“… Yeah! So? It’s awesome!!”

No. That premise sounds fucking stupid, and if you know anything about me, you’ll know that something like that is completely unappealing to me. I might get around to seeing an episode someday, but I doubt I’ll like it.

show about a group of vile corporate executives that drink, smoke,...adulterous...
  2. babblegirl said: Yeah, that’s kind of how I feel too. I hear the female characters are awesome but since most of the focus is on the scumbag dudes who treat them like crap, I don’t know if I could sit through it.
  3. coltivator said: lmao, you described the premise pretty much exactly right. except you’re missing the part about how each character struggles with their serious morality flaws and tries to find a way to change their habits but ultimately fails like the rest of us
