The Academy Awards are about prestige, politics, ass-kissing, and giving the most elderly actors their turn at winning (if they hadn’t in the past).
Granted, some movies based on young-adult fiction or even some kids’ movies overall have a shot at winning some of the categories, but I knew Harry Potter wasn’t going to win anything. It’s not the kind of movie that wins an Oscar. That doesn’t mean it wasn’t a great movie. I love so many movies that never even had a chance of being nominated for an Oscar. That’s just how the business goes.
And the reason that Meryl Streep’s Iron Lady beat out Harry Potter in the Makeup category was because it was a movie about Margaret Thatcher starring MERYL STREEP. A historical account of a powerful woman who drastically impacted the world… like I said before, politics.
So don’t fret, your movies are still good. Winning an Oscar isn’t what determines whether or not a movie is good. You’re the only one who can determine that for yourself.
